Attar Manufacturer
Attar manufacturer in Ahmedabad — alcohol-free concentrated perfume oils in the traditional Indian form. Private label attar production from 1,000 units. Natural and synthetic accords.
Attars represent one of the oldest continuous perfumery traditions in the world. As alcohol-free, highly concentrated perfume oils, they offer a fundamentally different olfactory experience than alcohol-based sprays: they wear closer to the skin, evolve more slowly with body heat, and possess exceptional longevity.
Fragrance & Fashion operates as an attar manufacturer from our facility in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Rooted in India's rich perfumery heritage, we bridge the gap between traditional Indian oil perfumery and modern, scalable, IFRA-compliant manufacturing. We produce concentrated perfume oils for domestic brands, GCC exporters, and international labels seeking alcohol-free alternatives.
What Are Attars? History and Modern Context
Strictly defined, a traditional Indian attar is a botanical extract hydro-distilled into a base of sandalwood oil. Over weeks of distillation, the sandalwood acts as a fixative, capturing the volatile essence of roses, jasmine, or earthy vetiver (Ruh Khus).
In the modern commercial context, the term "attar" (or Concentrated Perfume Oil - CPO) refers to any high-quality, alcohol-free fragrance oil designed for direct skin application.
Today's attars encompass both traditional naturals, which are formulations relying heavily on natural absolutes, essential oils, and resins, as well as modern synthetics. These modern synthetics are IFRA-compliant blends of aroma chemicals and naturals, allowing for scent profiles like modern aquatics or fresh fruits that cannot be achieved through traditional distillation.
At Fragrance & Fashion, we manufacture across this entire spectrum. Our custom fragrance composition team can develop a traditional Mukhallat or adapt a modern French-style fine fragrance into a stable, high-performing oil format.
The Manufacturing Process
Formulating and manufacturing attars requires different technical expertise than alcohol-based perfumes.
Oil Solubility and Base Selection
Because there is no alcohol to act as a solvent, the fragrance compounds must be completely soluble in a carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut oil, jojoba, or DPG). If formulated incorrectly, an attar can become cloudy, separate, or feel excessively greasy on the skin. We select bases that ensure perfect clarity, optimal skin absorption, and steady fragrance release.
Maceration
Attars require a different maceration (resting) profile than alcohol sprays. The oils must integrate over time to round off sharp edges and build depth. Our facility includes dedicated, temperature-controlled maceration storage for concentrated oils.
Precision Filling
Filling 6 ml or 12 ml vials with viscous oil requires precision equipment to avoid spillage, ensure accurate volume, and prevent contamination of the bottle exterior, which would ruin the packaging.
Attar Formats and Packaging
Because attars are highly concentrated, they are sold in small volumes and applied in drops or swipes. The packaging must be precise, leak-proof, and premium.
Standard Volumes
Attars are typically packaged in standard volumes corresponding to traditional measurements. Common sizes include 3 ml (quarter tola), 6 ml (half tola), 10 ml for standard travel or roller formats, and 12 ml, which is exactly one tola.
Application Fitments
There are a few key applicators used for concentrated oils. The traditional choice is the glass dabber or stick, a glass rod attached to the cap that allows the user to swipe the oil onto pulse points. A more modern and convenient fitment is the rollerball, featuring a stainless steel or glass ball that provides smooth, controlled application. Alternatively, a Euro dropper acts as an orifice reducer to dispense the oil drop by drop.
Premium Presentation
Attar presentation is traditionally ornate. Through our bottle and packaging manufacturing capabilities, we supply heavy, faceted, or decorated glass vials paired with zamac or metal caps, often electroplated in gold or silver. These are typically housed in rigid magnetic presentation boxes with precise EVA foam inserts to hold the small vials securely.
Markets: India, GCC, and Beyond
The market for attars is vast and expanding across multiple regions. Domestic India remains a massive traditional market demanding rich florals like rose and jasmine, woody accords, and modern designer-inspired oils. The Middle East, encompassing the GCC and MENA, is the largest market for premium attars, demanding heavy oud, amber, musk, and saffron blends; our formulations for these markets are export-ready and culturally authentic. Southeast Asia is also a strong market for alcohol-free fragrances due to Halal requirements. Furthermore, a growing segment of Western consumers are seeking alcohol-free alternatives due to skin sensitivities, or simply prefer the intimate, long-lasting wear of perfume oils.
The Private Label Attar Programme
Through our private label manufacturing service, launching an attar line is streamlined and accessible. The process starts with a brief where you define your target market, preferred profiles, and packaging style. Then comes fragrance selection, where you evaluate samples from our library of concentrated oils or commission a bespoke formulation. After selecting your packaging, such as vial size and box design, we handle the production, including compounding, filling, boxing, and shipping.
Our MOQ of 1,000 units per SKU allows brands to launch a diverse collection (e.g., a discovery set of four different oils) with minimal capital risk, scaling production as market demand grows.

Frequently Asked Questions
An attar is an alcohol-free, concentrated perfume oil. Traditionally, true attars were botanical extracts hydro-distilled into a sandalwood oil base (like Ruh Khus or Shamama). Today, the term is widely used for any high-quality, alcohol-free concentrated perfume oil, which may include natural absolutes, essential oils, and safe synthetic aroma chemicals.
We manufacture both. We offer traditional Indian attars featuring naturals sourced from Kannauj and Assam, as well as modern, IFRA-compliant concentrated perfume oils (CPOs) that utilise high-quality synthetics to achieve profiles like French florals, modern aquatics, and gourmands in an oil format.
Attars are highly concentrated and applied in small amounts, so packaging is typically small. Standard formats include 3 ml, 6 ml, 10 ml, and 12 ml (one tola). Packaging includes glass vials with glass dabbers (dipsticks) or rollerball fitments, often housed in premium rigid boxes or velvet pouches.
While the GCC and MENA regions are massive markets for attars, they are also highly popular in the domestic Indian market, Southeast Asia, and increasingly in Western markets where consumers are looking for alcohol-free, long-lasting, skin-close fragrances.
Our standard MOQ of 1,000 units per SKU applies to private label attars. This makes it viable to launch a diverse collection of oils — such as a set of six different 6 ml attars — without excessive inventory holding.
